End of Holidays!

End of Holidays!

This week saw the end of holidays for many of the horses and the majority of our staff.  The horses went on holiday over a month earlier than usual due to the lockdown. They have enjoyed 6 weeks of glorious weather, rest and relaxation – enjoying furlough more than some!

They will now be exercised on the roads for a few weeks before getting back on the gallops. This allows both horses and staff to get used to being ridden/riding – and to harden off certain muscle groups!

We have put new protocols and working practices in place to ensure the staff keep safe. Everyone is getting used to a slightly altered way of working but it shouldn’t be long before this becomes the new norm.

Our summer jumpers have been in work for sometime now. We are looking forward to them running when National Hunt racing starts again on 1st July. Unfortunately the owners can’t go racing yet which makes it all a bit surreal but live in hope that this restriction is to be lifted soon. It is at the top of the BHA’s agenda to find a way for owners to be able to return to the racetrack and watch their horses.
